Troubled mother stabs 3-yr-old son to death

A mother has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her three-year-old son to death.

The My 27 date set aside to celebrate Children's Day ended up in tragic fashion for a three-year-old boy, identified as Emmanuel Jumpy, after he was allegedly stabbed to death by his own mother, Funmilayo Adeyanju, reports Punch Newspaper.

The incident which happened in Ogunso area of Sango-Ota in Ado-Odo/ Ota local government area of Ogun State, sent the town into a frenzy of apprehension when it appeared the middle-aged woman took the life of her young son by stabbing several times with a kitchen knife.

According to reports, Adeyanju was impregnated by her own biological father three years ago and she gave birth to the boy.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the sad incident, said that though the police cannot say what motivated Adeyanju into murdering her son, they have arrested the woman and intense investigation is on going to unravel what actually led to the killing of the boy as well as to ascertain the mental health of the woman.

"The incident happened this afternoon (yesterday) at Ogunso area of Ota. The suspect was behaving funny when asked questions by the police.

The woman is in the custody of the police at Ota Divisional Police Headquarters. The case is still fresh and police need to work on the state of mind of the woman. We may need to seek the help of health experts to know her mental status."
