Police raid baby factory in Imo, arrest pregnant women
A notorious child trafficker has been arrested by the Imo State Police Command alongside four pregnant women.
Punch reports that the child trafficking suspects were arrested on December 14, 2016, following a tip-off about the factory, Regina Caeli Motherless/Destitute Home owned by Nwachukwu, located at Umorji community of Eziala Ogwu Nguru in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.
The four suspects arrested alongside Nwachukwu are Amarachi Nkwocha, 20, a native of Ehime Mbano LGA, with six months’ pregnancy, Chioma Eze, 26, from Otulu-Ahiara in Ahiazu Mbaise Council Area, who is seven months pregnant, Chinaza Opara, 16, from Umuezi Enyiogugu in Aboh Mbaise LGA, with four months pregnancy and Tochi Bekee’, 19, who is five months pregnant.
Briefing journalists on the arrest of the suspects, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Taiwo Lakanu, said the command operatives stormed the home following a report that the owner and her accomplices recruited young women, get men to impregnate them and after they put to bed, the children are sold off.
One of the pregnant ladies, Opara who could not identify who impregnated her, said that the plan was she would be ‘settled’ by Nwachukwu after delivery.
On how much she was to be paid after delivery, she said:
“She told me that if the baby is a boy, I would be given N300, 000 but if it is a girl, I would be paid, N200, 000.”
CP Lakanu further reiterated the command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements, especially in the coming yuletide season.
