Father arraigned in court for breaking son's hand over N100

A fathjer who beat up his son and broke his hand has been arraigned before a court in Lagos.

Child abuse is becoming rampant now.

A 28-year-old welder, Lekan Oyebade, has been arraigned before an Abuke Egba Magistrates' Court sitting in Lagos State, for allegedly beating his 10-year-old son with a cable wire and breaking his hand in the process over the sum of N100 he accused the kid of stealing.

The accused allegedly committed the crime at his residence at No.14, Akingbade Street, Igando area of the state and is now facing a two-count charge of assault and causing grievous harm.

The court heard that Oyebade committed the offences on June 13.

The prosecutor told the court:

"The defendant beat up his son with cable wire and also broke his right hand, the victim sustained injury leading to the plastering of his hand."

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened sections 170 and 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
