Man jailed for beating wife

Quartey was found guilty on the three charges and sentenced to five years imprisonment by the court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman Budu.

An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced a driver, Daniel Quartey to five years imprisonment on charges of threat of death, causing unlawful damage and harm.

Quartey was said to have struck his wife with an iron bar, pulled down her shop and threatened to kill her with a knife if she did not stop conducting church service in their house at Amasaman.

The Prosecutor, Grace Bandoh said the complainant, whose name was withheld, is a pastor and married to Quartey with four children,

Prosecution said the complainant has been holding church services in the house and Quartey was not happy about it and threatened to eject her from the house.

In February this year, Quartey picked up a knife and threatened to kill the wife if she does not leave her matrimonial home.

The matter was reported to Quartey’s family members but they were unable to resolve it.On May 17, this year, at about 13:00 hours, soon after her church activities was over, Quartey began demolishing  a store built in front of the house by the complainant.

When the complainant asked Quartey why he was demolishing the store, he got angry, beat her up and struck her right ankle with an iron rod leading to the complainant suffering a fracture on the ankle.

Prosecution said the complainant was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital and a report was later made to the Police and Quartey was arrested.
