Saudi woman to be lashed 70 times for insulting men on Whatsapp

A Saudi Arabian woman who attacked a man on Whatsapp has been sentenced to 70 lashes of the cane.

A woman in the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to 70 lashes of the cane and a fine of 20,000 Saudi Riyals, for insulting a man on instant-message application, Whatsapp.

The 32-year-old woman was adjudged guilty of tarnishing the reputation of the man by lashing out at him.

The court cited Article Three of the Saudi Anti-Cyber Crime Law which states that 'whoever defames or inflicts damage upon others through various information technology devices shall be subject to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year and a fine not exceeding SR500,000 or to either unishment.'
