Woman, 20, seeks dissolution of 3-yr-old marriage
The petitioner told the court that all efforts at showing love to her husband had failed as he was always quarrelling with her.
“Sometimes, I do menial jobs to provide food for the family.
“I buy my husband gifts like shoes and pay our only daughter’s school fees to show how much I want to keep my marriage.
”But my husband, who is a farmer and a commercial motorcyclist, rather than take care of us whenever he has money, will go out with friends to drink local gin.
“I was once hospitalised after my blood pressure went up and I fainted,’’ she said.
The petitioner, who said no dowry was paid by her husband, maintained that she was no longer interested in the union and urged the court to grant her custody of their two-year-old daughter.
She also prayed for an order of the court to retrieve her property, saying these include hair dryer and clothes.
The respondent, however, denied all the allegations, except that concerning unpaid dowry.
The three-man panel headed Mrs Yemisi Ojo ruled that a search warrant be issued on the defendant in order to retrieve the property of the petitioner in the house.
Ojo, who adjourned the case till July 3 for continuation of hearing, directed the defendant to come to court with all his witnesses on the said date.
