A local blacksmith, Najeem Bakare, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for making and selling guns to armed robbers and other criminally minded persons.
Blacksmith arrested for making, selling guns
A blacksmith who makes gun and sells them to criminals has been arrested in Lagos.
The 65-year-old gunrunner was smoked out from his hideout cum factory in the Ajah area of the state after some cultists and suspected armed robbers arrested by the police fingered him as the person who sells arms to them.
Bakare, a father of five and an indigene of Ibeju-Lekki, has confessed to the police that he makes guns for a living and sells them for a paltry N30,000 to some of the gang members arrested, but that the gang members told him they were security men who needed the guns for their own protection.
"I am a blacksmith. I make hoes, cutlasses and other metal appliances. I also make guns. It is true that I sold the gun to the gang. I sell guns because I need to meet family demands. I sold it to the boys for N30, 000.
They did not tell me they were cultists. They said they were security men and they needed protection. That was why I sold the gun to them."
