In the male dominated scene of online comedy, Grace Ajilore is bringing a breath of fresh air with her skits.
Twitter and Instagram have added a new dimension to the business of comedy.
Twitter comedians and Instagram comedians are now a thing within our entertainment hub. The names Oluwakaponeski, Crazy Clown, Chief Obi, Kanmi, Aphrican Ape and Ebiye are popular names to those who frequent Instagram and Twitter.
For most of these popular online comedians, they follow a popular and simple routine- make fun of Nigerian parents and highlight the difference between Nigerian culture and Western culture.
Earlier this year Ebiye broke into the scene by creating hilarious sketches that poked fun at the latest happenings in Nigerian pop culture. His Davido skit is a classic.
Just from a glance, you can see this budding scene dominated by men but a couple of months ago, a young lady by the name of Grace Ajilore made her mark.
On July 27, 2016, Grace Ajilore, 23, shared a video on her Twitter account. In the clip, Ajilore plays the role of a petty girlfriend who blasts her boyfriend for partying on his own. The video became a viral hit, with over 26,000 retweets today.
Doing away with the belief that lightning does not strike in the same place twice, Grace Ajilore released another skit. Still playing the role of the petty and crazy girlfriend she lambastes her boyfriend (who we never see on screen) for buying food only for himself. That video got over 9,000 retweets.
There are some who criticise the majority of Nigeria's online comedians for reinforcing stereotypes, Grace Ajilore's skits have been a breath of fresh air so far. Her skits are a deviation from the general themes of Nigerian online comedy that we have been consuming for a while now.

Grace Ajilore deals with love, relationships and the ever familiar crazy girlfriend. Everyone has a story of a crazy, petty girlfriend. Grace is bringing it online within the Nigerian context. Using an accent we are familiar with (she was born in Islington, London by the way) she has localized a global thing.
She isn't as prolific as her other male counterparts when it comes to skits but she also runs a vlog on YouTube that does healthy numbers. Grace Ajilore is also the owner of GraceLoreSwim and Latex.
Grace Ajilore is a buxom beauty and that heightens the success of her skits. You can't rule out the role of sex appeal when you click the video of a curvy, dark-skinned, and beautiful woman on your timeline. She does not look like a comedian, she looks like a model. She even appeared briefly on 'Dance For Me' by Eugy and Mr Eazy.
In a summer that Black Girl Magic trended worldwide, Grace Ajilore is bringing some of her girl magic to comedy online.
