Makurdi residents did not wait to find out the answer to that question on Thursday when a chicken reportedly began to speak Arabic.
'Talking' Chicken Causes Scare In Makurdi
"If chicken could suddenly speak as humans, what would they say?"
According to eye witnesses, the 'talking' chicken had been taken to the market for sale before it started talking.
Scared, residents of the area near the Wadata market where the 'talking' happened fled in different directions.
"Buyers and sellers in the market ran helter-skelter for safety fearing it was a renewed hostility between farmers and herdsmen who ceased fire barely a week ago," Daily Trust reported.
One of them who spoke to Abuja based newspaper said she did not see the chicken herself but would like to do so.
"I have not seen the chicken myself. I heard the police have taken it into custody and that is why the station is so crowdy. Everyone wants to see it talk," she said.
Spokesman of the Police, SP. Daniel Ezeala debunked the claims that a chicken spoke Arabic in the market.
“How can a fowl talk’” Ezeala asked?
“There is nothing like that because it is unnatural for animals to talk. It is the handiwork of mischief makers who wanted to displace traders and loot their wares in the market,” Ezeala said.
Residents have since gone back to their daily activities, even though many still believe the 'talking' chicken episode.
