The Ekiti state female preacher was murdered in cold blood by suspected Muslim fanatics in Gbazango Extension area of Kubwa, a satellite town in Abuja.

Gbazango is home to civil servants and low income earners in Abuja. Unemployed youths from the north find this area convenient to reside due to the low cost of house rents and free space for the construction of shanties.

The highly populated area has a total of three mosques and over five churches.

According to sources, Late Mrs Olawale was going about her usual early morning preaching knowing as Morning Cry when she was hacked to death on Saturday, July 9, 2016.

Emmanuel Asonwa, told Pulse correspondent that he heard footsteps of some people who ran pass his house while while working-out.

"I was exercising within my compound that early morning when I heard footsteps of people running. They pursued the woman from this way (pointing at an opposite direction) before they killed her near the transformer," he said.

"When I heard her shouting and the footsteps, I just went inside my house. My neighbours and I were discussing the issue when a guy in my compound who went clubbing the previous night came back with news that a woman was killed beside the transformer.

"I had never seen her before until that day, but most people here said she is a very nice and peaceful woman," he added.

Pulse learnt that men of the Nigeria Police Force made six arrests in connection with the incident. Among those arrested was a retail seller (popularly called Mallam) who owns a shop close to where the unfortunate event tookplace.

While most residents see the arrest of the retail shop owner as apt, others are of the opinion that the young man was innocent of the crime.

A woman who identified herself as Adaeze Uzodinma told our correspondent that suspected killers of the 42-year old female preacher were from a mosque close to the Bricks Market.

She accused worshippers at the brown and milk-coloured Mosque or religious intolerance.

She said some Muslim faithfuls who worshipped at the Mosque had attacked Nigerians who have a different belief system. The 49-year old woman said residents of the area now live in fear.

"Those Hausa boys that pray in that mosque (pointing at the building) are very aggressive", she said. They slapped a girl for singing worship songs while passing the mosque few weeks back and that is how they usually behave.

"The worst is, you cannot talk to anyone because they will all attack you.

"With the way Mrs Olawale was kill, it is boys from this Mosque that did that evil to the woman. Even the Redeem Church close to the area, that is how those boys will be performing ablution there; which is very bad."

On the arrests made, she said; "The police just arrested an innocent boy just because he stays close to where the woman was killed. This our police people need to be well trained!

Those who stay around there said her killers pursued her, why did they arrest the poor boy? Those who participated in the act must have left. Before now, they used to be here like it's a party, but as you can see, they have deserted the place. Only a few are here now and I am sure these ones will be giving the others report of happenings in the area," she said.

When our correspondent visited the late preacher's residence, her husband, Mr Elijah Olawale declined comments on the issue saying he was "instructed" by authorities of the church not to speak on the matter.

"Authorities from my church headquarter instructed me not to talk about the matter. With the increasing cases of killings in the country, they just said I should keep calm on the issue so it won't cause more problems.

"Whatever happened, God  knows why. Who am I to question Him? ," Mr Olawale said.

As the Police try to unravel the cause of death of the female preacher, there is an urgent need for increased security surveillance of the area. This would prevent a re-occurrence such incident.
