Why Wizkid Should Drop his Album Now

Pulse.ng's Music Analyst, Joey Akan, takes a critical look at all the reasons why Wizkid should release his hugely anticipated album now.

There's a theory that exists between various fields of study that typically explains the current level that Nigerian fans are, when it concerns music produced by Wizkid. In Physics, it's called 'breaking point', Chemistry has it as 'saturation', Economists will point to 'utility maximisation', pharmacists will look the way of 'Threshold dose', and Geographers will call it the 'Peak, Summit or Zenith'.

It is that level, where the highest or most noticeable part of a substance, commodity, situation, or in this case, music, can be felt, experienced, most enjoyed, or utilised. Wizkid's new album, which has been in the works for 2 years now is at this top level. The released singles off the album have got everyone dancing, talking or analysing, and at this moment, Nigeria is ready for the album.

Wizkid has made a revelation that the album is ready, but he is unable to drop it for undisclosed reasons. Insider reports have it that the album is being delayed due to indecision by the EME act. Wizkid has over 300 songs that are equally good, and would need to find the right balance of music for his next album to make a statement. He has promised several times to drop the album, but as the days go, and deadlines get smashed, the promises remain unfulfilled and the fans become unhappy.

The hype for the album is right, and at an all-time high. People have heard so much about the new album, that nothing novel can be milked to generate new interest in it. From stories of collaborations and beefs, to weed-smoking, and odd happenings, the hype is massive. The only new event that remains for the album to take shape is the long-awaited tracklist and artwork. Perhaps also, Wizkid should pull a Miley Cyrus and twerk on Tiwa Savage. That will certainly be new.

Also as a part of that massive hype, the news stories are also all over the place. Breath-taking performances, genuine acts of kindness, and a simmering beef with Davido has made everyone sit up and take extra notice. Who doesn't love a good ol' celebrity fight story? Not Nigerians!

Some quarters of the Nigerian public will dismiss it as a regular bust-up, but this Wizkid-Davido spat has many fans taking sides. Prior to this latest incident, fans of both parties have maintained and always ceased a good chance to campaign for their 'supposed' superiority over each other. The rift has many followers divided along a fine margin and the advantage lies with Davido...for now. He has the 'Aye' song, 'Gallardo', and prominent awards that has kept him ahead this year. But all that will change if Wizkid gets his album right and out.

The singles and videos released from the album are amazing. 'Joy', Bombay, and 'Show You The Money' are some of the best songs on many Nigerian playlists.

People believe in Wizkid. People love that young man with the voice that sounds like it belongs in a higher planet. (according to certain sources). And they will listen and buy his album. Wizkid holds all the good cards, but he needs to start playing them right now.

Let the album be his Ace and come to the table. We Nigerians have reached the 'Hype-Saturation' level. We can wait no more.
