Davido This video will convince you that Popstar is a global star

It is no secret that Davido's profile globally is as huge as it is at home, and his recent performance at the 2018 Wireless Festival places a confirmatory stamp on that.

Davido is a global star whose music keeps breaking boundaries and his performance at the Wireless Festival in London over the weekend goes a long way to prove that.

The Wireless Festival was held on the weekend of Friday July 6 - July 8, and had Nigeria's Davido performing on the second day of the event alongside other international acts like Stormzy, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Migos.

Davido's performance was made extra colourful as he took to the main stage immediately after the English National Team had just sealed qualification into the Semi-finals of the World Cup 2018 in Russia following a 2 nil victory over Sweden. A game that was broadcast live on the big screen at the music festival.

But the most captivating moment of his performance was towards the tail end of his set, as he converted a controversial moment into an epic one.

Davido had been signalled by the organizers to round up his performances and even threatened to cut him off, but the singer who was feeling the energy of the crowd and getting a loud cry from the crowd to continue, jumped back on stage and what happened after is best described as magic and pure reflection of his status globally.

 

Davido came back to the centre of the stage as his disc jockey, DJ ECool cued in his 2017 hit single, FIA and without saying a word, the fans at the festival which comprised of people from different nationalities, language, colour and background all served as members of the 'Davido choir' as they sang, ''Shawty want a million dollars, she say make I wire wire'', reciting every word to the song.

This moment was as iconic as it is emotional, in those minutes, Davido lived the dream of a million other artists, he elevated from just an African star into a global star, one whose ranks now sit comfortably amongst the greats, one whose music has broken the boundaries of international gates.

Wearing the white jersey of the English football national team with the number 10, Davido was indeed the mesmerizer with his energetic performance that constantly drew a wild ovation from the sold out crowd.

His performance set also had a number of hit songs from his rich catalog like his 2012 hit single, Dami Duro and quickly moved to recent songs like, If, Assurance, Fall, Aye, and he capped up the set with the introduction of his protege, Mayorkun on stage.

On the night when thousands conveyed to catch a glimpse of their favourite international acts, July 7 will be remembered as the night, when a Nigerian named Davido, singlehandedly turned the Wireless Festival into his crowning moment of glory.
