2022 Headies Award nomination list set for release on May 24

The Headies Award, Nigeria's biggest prize in music is set to announce the nominees for its 15th edition on Tuesday 24th May. The nomination list will contain some of the most recognized and celebrated songs in Nigeria in in 2021 and parts of 2020.

Headies 2022

The nomination list is expected to be keenly contested especially as a bulk of the materials released during the Covid-inspired music rush of 2020 are eligible for consideration.

All of Nigeria's heavyweights released albums in the year in view with varying degrees of penetration and success, so stakeholders and fans can expect this year's nominations to be the toughest yet.

The tough task of narrowing down the bulk of materials submitted for consideration was emphasized by the founder and executive producer of the Headies Mr. Ayo Animashahun who made the announcement through his Twitter handle.

"The most difficult nominees' list about to drop on Tuesday. Took four months of hard work for the academy to put together. Several meetings and hours on deliberations." he posted.

This year, the Next Rated Category promises to be heavily contested as some of the likely nominees enjoyed a successful run in the year in view. And with a Bentley SUV up for grabs, it would be expected that the nominees will channel all their resources into the race.

The Headies award like every other reputable award has a history of upsets and curious wins and this year shouldn't be any different. This year, the Headies is going international as it will be held at the COBB Energy Performing Arts Center Atlanta USA on September 4. The Headies Academy, as well as well-meaning stakeholders will be hopeful that this year's Headies award will restore the elevated status of the prestigious award.
