Darey Art Alade dropped not one but two singles today. The singer gives his fans a taste of what’s to come on his fourth album with the release of ‘Pray for me’ featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir and ‘Àsìkò laiyé’ featuring Olamide.
Darey's 'Asiko Laiye' and 'Pray for Me' are guaranteed comeback songs
With these two releases, Darey has found a way to connect with lovers of several different genres of music, his choice of songs to release today must have been a deliberate one.
‘Àsìkò laiyé’ featuring Baddo is an afrobeat song. Darey blends the afrobeat tune with elements of hip-hop, funk and highlife. The sound of the horns, bass guitar and the drums give life to the song. On the track, the ‘Sisi eko’ singer employs a rhythm strikingly familiar to that of the afrobeat King himself, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Olamide doesn’t disappoint his fans on this track. He's done quite a few collaborations this year, but this is probably the first time we’ve heard him on a traditional beat such as this. Hot stuff! It’s guaranteed that ‘Àsìkò laiyé’ be receiving massive airplay in the coming weeks.
Darey has recorded a song or two in the past where the nature of the song in terms of the genre or beat has overshadowed his voice. His song ‘Pray for me’ featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir, shows the strength of the singer’s voice and reminds us why he sits amongst the royalty of the Nigerian R&B kingdom. He takes us through a narrative on this track, and gets the Grammy award-winning gospel ensemble to back him up. This R&B/folk song has the power to enchant the listener from the musical arrangement to the lyrics, it evokes emotion. The lyrics of this song are in English and Yoruba, we bet if the lyrics were solely in Yoruba, Darey and the Soweto Gospel Choir would have had some people weeping.
After four years, the award-winning vocalist is set to release his ‘Naked’ album in August, 2015. With these two releases, Darey has found a way to connect with lovers of several different genres of music, his choice of songs to release today must have been a deliberate one.
If ‘Àsìkò laiyé’ and ‘Pray for me’ are the starter course of Darey’s upcoming album, fans are absolutely right to expect to an appetizing main course and scrumptious dessert.
