Logic is a conceptual artist, one who picks up an a basic angle, and begins to build on it until it becomes not just an idea, but a living, breathing, playing, piece of art. That’s how he has created music all his life, with albums and mixtapes rushing out of the Maryland native like he has no chill.

“Everybody” comes through saddled with the task of doing better than his previous projects. 2015’s “Incredible True Story” embraced humor to bring a light-hearted and refreshing take on Hip-hop. This new album is takes a similar path, only a more altruistic one. Logic is on the brink of something cool. He is still Hip-hop’s underdog, who makes music with a soul, and the expectation of fans is that he would cross from that with the music, and transition into Hip hop’s newest big boy on the block.

On this new project, there’s a bit of both. Told from the viewpoint of an African-American who is dead and finds himself in the afterlife, he speaks to God who is played by Neil deGrasse Tyson and also another individual named Atom. And from there, we have experimentation meeting pop styles.

On experimentation, he mixes spoken word verses on ‘Anxiety’ and slaps R&B hooks on ‘Killing spree’, and ‘1-800-273-8255’. ‘Anxiety’ and ‘1-800-273-8255’ preach the message of mental health, and how everyone goes through an intense internal struggle to hang on to sanity. He also reflects on his biracial heritage, his identity in America, and upbringing. On the pop side, there’s ‘Black Spiderman’, (which also comes with a strong message of faith, and acceptance for everyone).

Logic employs immersive characters, to talk join the conversations, and creates a message for everyone. It’s a futuristic, luscious album that aims its sights on a concept that is truly captured by the music.
