Eva - Eva, The EP

The female rapper shows growth and deep emotions in her new body of work.

On Eva's EP, the female rapper exhibits growth. Her last EP, GIGO was restrictive, but on this new effort, Eva becomes a woman revealing her scars and becoming wiser to the ways of the world.

She subtly summarizes what she has been through within the last few years on the spoken word 'Eva Says 14',"I found myself through heartbreaks and betrayal/previously disguised as love and a prayer/a charming smile and a hug from a stranger. And that's the sh*t that reminds me of my hunger...I accept that my self worth is not measured by body counts and statements of bank accounts."

Eva's new EP is all about life and love. She talks about the former on 'Back From The High'.  "I've got a lot weighing on my mind. F*ck it-I don't know where to start/days become many years, and you can't tell/friends become enemies, they think you are doing well/they heard you making money now, they hoping you will share/just throw some over here, some over there" she says with a taste of wisdom on her lips.

She sounds disappointed about fame that she has chased for so many years ("it's a bitter place, everyone sugar coats it"). The track is haunted by Madonna's vocals from the song 'Frozen'. The production on the track is dark, spacey with heavy knocks, and atmospheric.

On '100 Percent' she uses the same mood, atmospheric music to reveal her emotions. Eva asks for commitment from her lover. She wants 100 percent love and 100 percent attention as she pleads "oh give it to me baby."

Desperate for full love she reels a series of questions to her boyfriend, questioning his faithfulness. This song is highly conceptual and vivid. It's surprisingly explicit from Eva- an artist who likes to dwell on the abstract.

'Double Double' is her posse cut where she samples Rihanna's 'Pour It Up'. She flexes her lyrical ability ("I get an A every time that I be on a CD"), and talks about how she is better and more unique than her predecessors. "I did it sick way better than all the girls who came before me/you say i am rapping foreign/but track records say your fans adore me...I am cut from a different seamstress" she raps.

This EP is a snapshot or trailer of what we should expect from Eva's full length debut album. With only four tracks she shows growth, depth and a better understanding of her talent. Hopefully on her album, these traits will be on full display.
