‘I hear you calling, I don’t know if I wanna come near you’, Beazy opens this mixtape on a Trap note. There’s an ominous hook, as the singer opens up his first edition of his “Verba Mea Dolore” mixtape.

From August 2010 to August 2011, Beazy created a record as the first artiste with the highest number of releases. The indie act set the record as the first Nigerian rapper to record and release the highest number of songs in a year. The songs which comprise of original recordings and remixes were recorded and released from August 2010 to August 2011 totaling up to 52.

He has since kept up his end of releasing new music, leaning towards the Hip-hop fans and purists with pristine flows and delivery on every song.

2015 sees him come forward with this mixtape. From Latin came the name “Verba Mea Dolore”, which translates to English as “My Words”. The titular expression sets you up for some very deep reflection. These 6-tracks are a window into the deepest parts of himself, as he digs into wisdom and knowledge to create sage-like monologues which reflect his state of mind.

The dark and morbid ‘Something’s going on’, is an emotional wallow in self-pity. Beazy conjures images of soul-searching as he wonders about the state of his humanity and innate struggle. “I look in the mirror, I’m like who the fuck are you, I done change so much all for a buck or two”. Strangely, this is soothing, wrapping you with the melodic realizations and percussions. Hope pierces through this gloom as a prayer for uplift comes through on ‘Strength’. Very few could handle a hook the way Ebisan delivers on it.

More hope comes flooding in, and Pherowshuz makes an appearance on the affirmation-saturated ‘Keep working it’. The harmonica ushers you into a song which contains Beazy working his way to stardom. The goal of every artiste is to impact a mass audience and create history. He wants to be an OG.

The journey ends at the rapper’s optimum level. From depression to prayer, to hope, to inspiration, it all ends in positivity on ‘Back to me’. The cycle is completed.

“Verba Mea Dolores” is a journey through the mental state of a man. Each stage representing a movement from low to high, weakness to strength, valley to mountaintops. Beazy experienced all of these, and created music that captures these stations of self. He makes it art, serves it to his fans, and everyone.
