Producer speaks on 'Blurred lines' ruling

The famous singer and producer says the ruling hampers the creativity of artistes.

Pharrell Williams

Music producer Pharrell has publicly spoken about the 'Blurred Lines' that ordered him and Robin Thicke to pay Marvin Gaye's estate the sum of $7.5m for copyright infringement.

In a release sent to Financial Times, Pharrell said "the verdict handicaps any creator out there who is making something that might be inspired by something else. If we lose our freedom to be inspired, we're going to look up one day and the entertainment industry as we know it will be frozen in litigation" he said.

This is about protecting the intellectual rights of people who have ideas" the statement further read. "There are no solid plans to appeal the verdict right now" said Pharrell.

Contrary earlier reports, Marvin Gaye's family will not be heading to court over Pharrell's smash mega hit 'Happy' which they claim sounds like a track from the iconic soul singer.
