Pharrell Williams is sure to remain in a happy mood after his hit song, "Happy" claimed the number one spot on Billboard's most popular hits of 2014, as well as Facebook's list for top songs of the year.

The 41-year-old music maker, who received a star on the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles on December 4, defeated big stars like Sam Smith, John Legend and Iggy Azalea to cling the double top spot.

The upbeat jam was written as part of the soundtrack for Despicable Me 2, the sequel to the 2010 animated film which Pharrell also worked on.

And you know I just feel like the universe is in a place where our species are just supposed to be happy and smiling again.'

Pharrell is currently a coach on NBC's The Voice and designs for Billionaire Boys Club & ICECREAM apparel.
