Olamide, Burna Boy embrace dancehall for ‘Omo Wobe’

There’s an Olamide album coming out this month, and there’s nothing no one can do about it. The rapper had earlier announced the project, titled

Still keeping up with the tradition of dropping an album at the close of the Year, YBNL leader, Olamide has announced his 6th studio album. The rapper made the announcement on his Instagram page, on a post where he unveiled the album art. The album title is called "The Glory". The new project will be released on December 26, 2016, on the same day the third edition of his live concert, "Olamide Live In Concert" will be holding.

It’s December now, and the countdown to the release of the project has started. But the rapper wants to sweeten the process, and he has released a new single, ‘Omo Wobe’, featuring Burna Boy.

The single is produced by in-house specialist, Pheelz, and has both stars come to it looking to dovetail. ‘Omo Wobe’ draws recurring elements from dancehall music, which is disguised buy the persistent guitars and piano keys that give the instrumentation form and dynamism.

‘Omo wobe’ will most likely be housed on Olamide’s “The Glory” album. And it adds to the growing contingent of non-rap songs that might make the project.

Nobody knows how many of his singles since his last album will make the "The Glory". And although the rapper has kept up his work in the pop genre, he has always been sure to mix that with some Hip-hop tracks. This genre diversity has retained his credibility as a rapper, while also chasing the big bucks that comes from the pop sound.

Singles ‘Who you epp’, ‘Lies People Tell’, ‘Owo Blow’, and ‘Sere’ have all been rap singles which sits squarely at the center of the Hip-hop conversation. If ever there was an award for the most eye-catching and viral Hip-hop record for 2016, ‘Who you epp’ will be a shoo-in for the trophy. Olamide understands his roots in indigenous rap music, and how he earned his credentials by spitting for the streets. He embraces his past, and looks to the future with more of it.
