"I think I am underrated"

With 9 awards in 2 years, and a number of nominations within the country and overseas, the popular singer still believes that people are yet to grasp the full knowledge of her abilities.

Popular singer, Nikki Laoye has revealed that she feels a little bit underrated.

The The award-winning singer who just released her sophomore album, ‘123 Project’,  is of the belief that a lot of people don’t know the expanse of her talent, and capabilities, and so are getting to feel a bit of that every day.

She told Pulse TV: “Do I think I’m underrated? I still kind of think so. I think I’m underrated in the sense that you don’t know what this girl got here (points to her head).

“But I’m happy that right now, it’s as if I’m being, is there a word to say ‘re-unveiled’. Why? Because I know there was a break, at a point in time in my career, when I lost my dad in 2011, I kinda like stopped doing music for a while. You know, because I was just going through a lot.

But the very first single which I released in 2013, from that point up to now, it’s just been crazy.” Nikki said.

Nikki Laoye has had a number of awards in her time. With 9 gongs in 2 years, and a number of nominations within the country and overseas, the singer is happy with her progress, and feels that her music is relevant, with constant improvement giving her immense recognition.

“In 2013 I got four awards, in 2014  I got five. So you can imagine within the space of releasing two major singles, ‘Only you’ and ‘123’, nine awards came. It just shows that  I have a space, I have a place of relevance in the music industry, and I’m doing all that I can to push my music forward.

“So whoever is underrating me is just wasting his time, because the truth is that you will keep hearing my name and you will get tired and ask ‘who is this girl?’

I see a lot of tweets like that. They are like ‘who is this Nikki Laoye?’, and I’m like don’t worry, she’s always been here, and she will always be here.”
