Quilox stopped rapper's performance midway, report reveals

New details have emerged over the controversy surrounding the 'maltreatment' and disrespect shown to MI Abaga at the popular nightclub.

MI Abaga was disrespected by the management of popular Lagos high-class nightclub, Club Quilox, and he has since vented on social media.

And now, new details have emerged about the affair. A report by NET have revealed the manner of disrespect meted out to the rapper by the club.

A source from the rapper’s camp who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: “M.I was meant to headline the One Nite: Live and Unplugged event at the club last night and we were there, M.I was even performing already when the club manager went to tell the show’s organiser, Ngozi, that they had to finish up the event by 12 midnight so they could start their club and it was already a few minutes to midnight.

“So we begged the manager to give us 5 minutes more because the club wasn’t even filled at the time and the few people there were feeling MI’s performance and we thought we had a relationship with the club as well but the guy just refused. So suddenly while MI was performing, they just switched off the light and M.I’s microphone and they switched to their Dj who played M.I’s song, ‘Bad Belle’.”

The source further revealed their embarrassment and sipleasure with the Quilox, emphasising the impatience and disregard of the night club.

“We were all very upset, because all we asked for was 5 minutes for M.I to finish his performance.”

Club Quilox has reacted to the situation, revealing their side of the story. According to a rep of the management, the club had no deal with MI Abaga, but was operating in strict accordance with their agreement with the organisers of Live and Unplugged.

"Quilox had a contract with Live&Unplugged on 28th February between 10pm-12am. Live&Unplugged contracted M.I as their artist for the night.  At 12am on the said day, M.I was still performing and majority of our customers were complaining and demanding the DJ as we had other events planned for the night. In the process, some customers left." The rep said.

The rep further revealed that M.I was accorded extra time for his performance, but exhausted it, which forced their hand to call off his performance.

"The management honoured M.I's presence by giving him an additional 30mins and informed his management that he would need to stop at exactly 12.30am. At 12.34am, he was still playing.  Our management at this point was forced to take a decision at 12.45am and let the DJ start his set for the night."

"The 1st song he played was M.I - 'Bad Belle' to show no disrespect.  Again, we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
