Legendary 60's singer passes away after bout with cancer

The artiste who helped Quincy Jones score his first number one hit in America, and inspired pop culture has died.

Female iconic singer Lesley Gore on Monday, February 16, 2015 passed away at a New York hospital after a battle with cancer. She was 68 when she died.

Lesley Gore scored big hits such as 'It's My Party', 'Judy's Turn to Cry' and 'You Don't Own Me' in the sixties. 'It's My Party' released in 1963 and was produced by Quincy Jones.

The song which had several versions before Lesley Gore's version rose to the number one spot in the pop and rhythm and blues charts in America. It was also Quincy Jones first hit record as a producer.

'It's My Party' was a soundtrack in the 1990 cult classic movie ''. US rapper interpolated the song in his 'This Is My Party' single from his 2002 album Street Dreams.

Late soul singer Amy Winehouse covered the song in 2010 for the tribute album to Quincy Jones.
