Rising Afrobeats artist Lucid is a young man with big ambitions

In 2023, he released his debut EP appropriately titled 'Hi I'm Lulu' which served as a call for listeners to explore his comprehensive talent as he gets on the path of building a reputation that will precede.

On the singles 'Night Bus' and 'Therapy' he shows an impressive capacity to make quintessential Afropop music while still managing to add a defining touch through his breezy vocals and elastic lyricism. While 'Night Bus' is reminiscent of the sultry penmanship and melodic build-up of Port Harcourt-born Afrobeats star Omah Lay, Lucid's vocal cast a retentive spell that draws in listeners to absolve the music till they can spot his distinction.

The rising act has kicked off 2024 with the release of two singles 'Hooligan' and 'Why' as he aims to get closer to his dream of operating at the summit of the African music scene.

Lucid's music carries a personal touch like in 'Therapy' where he gives listeners a peek into his mental state. He shares that his music is inspired by not only his experiences but that of his family and those around him.

" I get inspired every day by just living and experiencing," he says, and while some listeners might find a compelling comparison between his music with Omah Lay's, Lucid says that his style is defined by his desire to make music that makes people feel things.

Lucid breaths music and at every point in his life, music has played a role. Whether it be joining the choir or posting freestyle videos on his Instagram account, everything has led him to this point. For the artists who inspire him, Lucid gushes about Nigeria mercurial folk artist Asa whom he describes as his favourite. He also finds inspiration in Burna Boy's sheer ability to create compelling music and in Travis Scott's expansive musical exploration.

In the course of chasing his dreams, Lucid like other emerging talents has faced some challenges. He says building a community hasn't been easy neither has getting booking but he maintains a positive outlook with the strong belief that his goals are within reach.

Having kicked off 2024 on a strong note, Lucid says he has more music coming and fans can expect him to always strive to outdo himself.

At a time when the Nigerian Pop scene is towing a linear path with the sound monotonous and tired, Lucid is a breath of fresh air. He's one to watch out for.
