Omoni Oboli's comedy movie is getting a sequel and a TV series

With a TV series and a sequel, Omoni Oboli could be turning the 2016 comedy movie, "Wives on Strike," into a franchise.

The TV series spin-off of Omoni Oboli's Wives on Strike is executive produced by Restless Global for Trace TV.

There has been "Jenifa's Diary" and "Fifty The Series," both of which are small screen adaptations of successful and popular movies.

Dioni Visions, the production company owned by Omoni Oboli, is the latest to give new life to a movie with her 2016 movie, "Wives on Strike."

In an exclusive interview with Pulse Nigeria, the filmmaker revealed that "Wives on Strike The Series"and "Wives on Strike: The Revolution" are in the works.

"Wives on Strike" is a gift that keeps on giving. So, yes, we have a series. We have actually finished shooting that," she said.

"And, we do have a sequel coming up as well. We have "Wives on Strike" part 2, it's called "Wives on Strike: The Revolution." So get ready for the revolution."

Omoni Oboli, Kenneth Okonkwo, Julius Agu, Chioma Chukwuka, Uche Jombo, Ufuoma McDermot, who led the original movieare expected to return for the sequel and TV series.

The series will also feature Mercy  Aigbe, who is more popular for her roles in indigenous movies.

"Yes, we are using the same cast, and more," the filmmaker confirmed.

The movie was a hit at the box office, grossing 15 million naira in three days and completing its cinema run with 71 million naira, which earned it a spot as the 6th highest grossing Nollywood movie ever.

Both upcoming projects are helmed by Oboli, who made her directorial debut in 2014 with "Being Mrs Elliott," and has since directed "First Lady," and most recently, "Okafor's Law," which premiered at the Toronto International  Film Festival as part of its City to City programme.

The original "Wives on Strike" movie followed the story of a group of market women who decide to take matters into their own hands against their husbands in a bid to stir them into standing up for a young girl whom they wanted to protect from the wishes of her own father.

A TV series and a sequel aren't the only projects in the works for the filmmaker. She is working on "The Matchmaker" and "The Land Calls."

"I have another movie that I'm shooting very soon. For now, the working title is "The Land Calls," she revealed. We might change that title, I'm not very sure."

"We have another movie called The Matchmaker."

Oboli will produce, direct and star in these upcoming movies.

She will next be seen in the upcoming romantic comedy movie, "My Wife and I."
