New documentary claims singer was bisexual
The late Houston’s sexuality is however revisited in a new documentary about the legendary singer.
"Whitney: Can I Be Me" was unveiled at the Tribeca Film Festival Wednesday night, April 26, 2017, called into question Houston’s relationship with her best friend and assistant Robyn Crawford.
"I don’t think she was gay, I think she was bisexual," stylist Ellin Lavar said in the movie. "Robyn provided a safe place for her in that Whitney found safety and solace."
Houston and Robyn, who met in East Orange, N.J., as teenagers, were subject of rumours for years, even during Houston’s marriage to Bobby Brown.
“Robyn and Whitney were like twins,” security personnel Kevin Ammons said in the movie.
“They were inseparable. They had a bond and Bobby Brown could never remove Robyn. He wanted to be the man in the relationship.”
Former bodyguard David Roberts said Brown and Crawford would “battle for her affections,” until Crawford finally left after the 1999 “My Love Is Your Love” world tour.
“Whitney: Can I Be Me” will premiere on Showtime in August this year.
