'Redeeming Love' is a love story against the backdrop of the California Gold Rush of 1850 and centers on Angel (Abigail Cowen), who was sold into prostitution as a child. It sold over three million copies at a time when literal success was commercially limited. The author herself was already a successful historical romance novelist before she became a Christian in 1986. Her spiritual revival led to a professional one. She blended her familiarity with romance tropes and her new interest in the Bible to tell a story that works on a romantic and spiritual level.
