TIFF solicits for funds to support Nigerian filmmakers

Organizers of the film festival took to Twitter to solicit for funds to support Nigerian filmmakers. "Donate $50 to support Nigerian filmmakers" - TIFF shared via its official Twitter page.

The eighth year for the City to City programme, will showcase filmmakers living and working in Lagos, regardless of where their films are set.

A star-studded movie, "Okafor's Law" stars Richard Mofe Damijo, Toyin Aimakhu, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Ken Erics, Ufuoma McDermott, Kemi Lala Akindoju, Yvonne Jegede, Halima Abubakar, Mary Lazarus, Uche Nnaji, Betty Irabor, Tina Mba, Gabriel Afolayan, and Funke Bucknor.

Synopsis:

Chuks (aka Terminator) is an ardent player with the ladies. He enjoys the attention of women, including girlfriends from the past. He believes that once a man has had a woman, he forever has access to her.

When challenged by his friends to see if he can prove the universality of that theory with three ex-girlfriends from his school days within 21 days, he accepts it.

Turning on his best charm he sets off to try and prove himself, but his quest brings him to three women, Ifeoma (Fifi), Kemi and Ejiro, whose situations in life have changed drastically since school days. This challenge of their various new statuses makes his quest to win the bet more and more insurmountable as he tries to prove the immutability of the age-old law, Okafor's Law.

Adigun played by AMVCA winner Femi Jacobs, is a 31 year old naive village mechanic coming to Lagos for the first time. His decision comes following the sudden death of his father, a man he never truly knew, yet a man very popular in his village as the iconic Lagos taxi driver 'Oko ashewo'.

However, Adigun's coming to Lagos is on the invitation of Taiwo, his father’s fellow taxi driver played by popular yoruba actor Odunlade Adekola. Taiwo however is dangerous and as shady as Lagos at night.

Taxi Driver (Oko Ashewo) tells the story of how Adigun copes with dealing with the multitude of odd characters he comes across.

From Delia the queen prostitute, to Kakanfo the unseen vigilante, the notorious assassins ‘three wise men’, to the Godfather, Baba Mistura and many more interesting characters that ply their trade in Lagos at night.

Directed by Daniel Oriah, the movie stars Femi Jacobs, Ijeoma Grace Agu, Afeez Oyetoro, Odunlade Adekola among others.

Produced by Adonaija Owiriwa and Izu Ojukwu, and directed by Izu Ojukwu, the story in the film is told from two points of view: that of a young pregnant woman, and that of her husband, a soldier accused of being involved in the 1976 military coup and assassination of General Murtala Mohammed.

The anticipated movie stars talented actors like Ramsey Nouah, Rita Dominic, Ibinabo Fiberesima, Chidi Mokeme,Memry Savanhu, Adonijah Owuruwa, Daniel K. Daniel, Nelly Ekwereogu and Shuaibu Ebenehi Adams.

4. "The Wedding Party"

The romantic comedy stars Adesua Etomi as Dunni Coker,Banky W as Dozie, Alibaba and Sola Sobowale as Dunni’s parents, and Ireti Doyle and RichardMofe-Damijo as Dozie’s parents.

"The Wedding Party" also stars Zainab Balogun, AY, Ikechukwu, Beverly Naya, Emma OhMaGod, Lepacious Bose amongst others.

Synopsis:

Set in Lagos, Nigeria, "The Wedding Party" is a riveting tale of the complexity of love. It is the story of Dunni Coker, a 24 year old art gallery owner and only daughter of her parents about to marry the love of her life, IT entrepreneur Dozie. The couple took a vow of chastity and is looking forward to a ground-breaking first night together as a married couple.

The date has been set and the bride’s parents, who have recently enjoyed a surge in their fortunes, are going all out to make this the wedding of the century. Dunni’s about to be mother-in-law, Obianuju, is having second thoughts about allowing her son marry into a family she considers as beneath them.

Between matchmaking attempts on the bridal train, a wedding planner on a mission to succeed, the unruly behaviour of some ‘village’ guests and the groom’s ex-girlfriends looking to make their mark, it is clear the Wedding Party will be the talk of the town.

Will it all be too much to bear for the bride or will true love stand even the most chaotic of wedding celebrations?

5. "Just Not Married"

Two brothers are on opposite paths. Victor is a recent ex-con who is trying to piece his life together while Duke is a brilliant undergraduate determined to see his mum live.Duke enlist the help of his two friends in stealing cars by decorating the cars and pretending to be married.Despite some unforeseen hiccups, their operation was pretty successful until people got greedy and violent.

"Just not Married " is written by Lani Aisida and has Fayo Segun Festus as Director of Photography. It features Stan Nze, Rotimi Salami, Ijeoma Agu, Obutu Roland, Brutus Richard, Gregory Ojefua, Judith Audu, Perpetua Adefemi,with special appearances by Adeniyi Johnson, Sambasa Nzeribe, Morten Foght, Bucci Franklin, Eric Nwanso, L.A.S.E, Seun Afolabi, 16Oniru among others.

Produced by Judith Audu-Foght and  directed by Uduak-Obong Patrick, the movie was edited by Asurf Oluseyi.

"The Arbitration" tells the story of Gbenga (O.C Ukeje) and his employee Dara (Adesua Etomi) who had an affair. After the affair ended and Dara left the company, she sued Gbenga and accused him of rape. An arbitration panel was constituted to find out the truth.

Directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, the movie stars OC Ukeje,Adesua Etomi, Ireti Doyle, Sola Fosudo, Beverly Naya, Somkele Idhalama, Gregory Ojefua among others.

7. "Green White Green"

A group of young bohemian artists hang out and search for direction in their lives in the stagnant months leading up to the beginning of their university studies, in this richly textured and frequently funny look at Lagos’ new generation.

Directed and produced by Abaa Makama, the movie stars Ifeanyi Dike, Jamal Ibrahim, Samuel Robinson, Crystabel Goddy, Okey Uzeoshi, Bimbo Manuel, Eric Didie, Donatus Ekwuazi, Donald Jonah, Meg Otanwa, Abubakar Yakubu, Dabis Christopher and Omoye Uzamere.

8. "93 Days"

"93 Days" is a movie centred on the true-life story of men and women who risked their lives and made sacrifices to save Nigerians from the consequences of the outbreak of the highly dreaded Ebola virus disease.

A compelling human story of dedication, sacrifice, resilience and survival, The movie is directed by Steve Gukas,  and produced  by Bolanle Austen-Peters, Dotun Olakunri and Steve Gukas.

The movie demonstrates the bravery of the late undefinedand her colleagues. From their encounter with the late American-Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, who was the index case of the Ebola Virus Disease, to ensuring that the right medical procedures were in place to stop the spread of the disease in the country.

Starring undefinedthe movie also stars Bimbo Akintola as Nigerian hero, Dr Stella AdadevohGideon Okeke, Somkhele Idhalama, Bimbo Manuel and veteran Hollywood actor, Danny Glover.
