"I understand the boycott. What I don't understand is asking Chris Rock not to host," comedian speaks on the ongoing Oscars drama
Following the announcement of the 2016 Academy Awards nominations which featured all white actors in the four acting categories, some stars have announced that they would boycott the awards ceremony.
Also, a lot of pressure has been mounted on Chris Rock to step down as host of the show.
A lot of celebrities have weighed in on the controversial topic, and the latest is comedian Steve Harvey, who understands the boycotting, but not the pressure on Rock.
"I understand the boycott," Harvey said via Hollywood Reporter. "I understand what they're saying. What I don't understand is asking Chris Rock not to host. I think Chris Rock should host. Chris Rock doesn't determine who the nominees are. The Academy does. And nobody knows who the Academy is."
Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs , reacted to the lack in diversity saying; "Of course I am disappointed, but [it is] not to take away the greatness (of the films nominated). This has been a great year in film, it really has across the board. You are never going to know what is going to appear on the sheet of paper until you see it. We have got to speed it up.”
