If you have been to the cinema at any point over the last year, then you probably know the actress, who is a testament of being yourself and letting your talent speak for you.

In 2016, it was evident that she would proceed to become most moviegoers new crush, on and off the screen.

In 2016, she featured in three out of the eight Nollywood movies that screened at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival - in Niyi Akinmolayan's “The Arbitration” as Omawumi Horsefall,Steve Gukas' "93 Days" as Dr Ada Igonoh and Kemi Adetiba's "The Wedding Party" as Yemisi Disu.

She was also selected to attend the Toronto International Film Festival as the first female international TIFF Rising Star, alongside OC Ukeje.

On November 27, 2016, Idhalama won her first movie award ever at the ELOY awards where she went home with the Actress of the Year award for her role in “93 Days.”

In November, 2016, Somkele Idhalama received a special jury mention at the 2016 Africa International Film Festival Globe Awards for her role in “93 Days.”

In December 2016, she won the Future Awards EbonyLife Prize For Acting.

Before 2016, the actress had been bouncing around on some of our favourite TV series and movies, including "Gidi Up," "The Department,""The Island" and "Dreamwalker."

Then 2016 came, fast and exciting for the actress' career, but not too fast for moviegoers to notice, experience and appreciate her talent.

"I have followed the trail of others, but I never thought that this early, I would become a trailblazer" - Somkele Idhalama said while receiving her award.

So far in 2017, she has featured in "The Guest," and the critically acclaimed "Ojukokoro," and will be seen next as Yemisi Disu in the anticipated "The Wedding Party 2."

A graduate with a degree in Biochemistry from McMaster University, Canada, Somkele emerged the acting scene as the refreshingly talented actress that she is.

While we await 2017's breakout star, Idhalama is and should be your screencrush.
