Tell Us About Your Background.

My dad is from Imo State, and my mum is half Yoruba and half Scottish, hence my name Abiodun. Before I moved to Nigeria, the only language I could speak was English and a little bit of French. The French has faded because I don’t see anyone to interact with in French. I understand Igbo but I can’t speak, reasons being that my parents don’t come to Nigeria, and they speak English.

I moved to Nigeria and I learnt Yoruba by watching Africa Magic Yoruba. It took me two years, and I wish we had Africa Magic Igbo. I will gladly learn how to speak.

What Inspired You to Move Back To Nigeria?

First of all, my family is still based in the UK. In my family, everyone is well-grounded. I think that I am more independent, and I have been independent since I was 16 and I got my first job. I am the sort of person that I want to have my own experience, I want to make my own mistakes and learn from it. I moved out of my father’s house while I was in the university, I wanted to see life, I wanted to travel, so I went back to my first love which is more of the arts, and I figured that Nigeria is the best place for me to come back to, so I moved back to start doing my thing.

How Long Have You Lived in Nigeria?

Full time 3 years.

Considering Your Journey So Far, Do You Think The Move Has Been Worth It?

It has been worth it… It has been a successful one.

Tell Us About Your Journey So Far In Nollywood?

I remember the day I landed in Nigeria, I had an audition. I rushed straight to get my hair done for the audition, and ever since then, it has been audition audition audition. I don’t really go for auditions anymore. It has been a great experience. It has been challenging, but it has been fun all the way.

What Are The Challenges You Encounter As An Actress?

I am short (laughs), I’m not tall. Most times I have to be casted for a movie alongside a tall guy, sometimes it’s always a problem. It can be very challenging. I am not a fan of wearing heels, I was a tom boy but I am trying to be a girly, but wearing heels every day is not my thing. I just want to be on snickers and flats. So, yes, being a short girl has been challenging.

Do You Have People That Inspire You in The Industry?

Yes. Rita Dominic, Omoni Oboli, Joke Silva, Kate Henshaw, Dakore Akande, those are my senior colleagues, they are sisters, mothers, and whenever I have issues, I can always pick up my phone and speak to any of them and they will advise me.

Kate Henshaw is a darling, I love her to bits. They inspire me. I also have my colleagues that I work with that inspire me, I have Oc Ukeje, and we have known each other from way back even before I started acting.

Is Marriage On The Cards For You Anytime Soon?

Yes.

How Soon?

(Laughs) I don’t know how soon, I want to get married and have kids someday. I don’t know how soon.

Is KC in a Relationship?

I don’t talk about my private life.

What Do You Have To Say About The Kind Of Pressure Young Girls Face to Get Married?

Well, from what I have seen from people around me, there is a lot of pressure. But, nobody is putting a gun to your head, so you don’t have to do it. I finished from university and friends of mine were getting married and after two to three years, they are out of the marriage, and I am like ‘then why did you get married?’ and they have nothing to say.

It is really crazy because a lot of young people are going into it without really knowing what marriage is about. They are only interested in the party, and that is the problem with Nigerians, we just want the party, but marriage is not something to be played with.

My advice to anybody out there who is being pressurized by society or family is ‘go to God first, that is the only place you will get your answers first’.

What is Your Honest Opinion of Nollywood?

I love Nollywood. The thing is - you love and you hate it, but at the end of the day, you love it. Even if you hate it, you want to go out, but you find yourself back and still doing it. So, it is a love and hate relationship.

We have come a long way. I remember from days of ‘Igodo (That is like my favorite movie), ‘Keeping Faith’, to the series called ‘Palace’, now we are doing a fantastic job. It is a gradual process, we are not Hollywood, we might not have the right resources, but we are making do with what we have, and I am very positive that Nollywood is here to stay.

What Are the Challenges You Think Nollywood is Facing?

Lack of structure, first we have to start with the board, where someone can report and say ‘I’m an actor’. They do that in AGN, but sometimes you hear about an audition and a random person is doing a movie and he has no idea of what he is doing. Calling girls, just for the fun of it. So, we need structure, we need to stop things like that, so we know who the right people are, and who to go to.

What Has Been Your Most Embarrassing Moment?

I won’t call this an embarrassment. It was a funny experience. Just about last month, I went to the market for the very first time, and a lady stopped me and she was like ‘Jumai- that was a character I played in a TV series ‘Tales of Eve’. I looked and she was like “Awww… I love you’. At first I was surprised,  and then I had to remember ‘Jumai form Tales of Eve’. So it wasn’t an embarrassment, it was fun. She thought I looked so young. She was like ‘You are so young, you don’t even have make up on, you are so fine’.

What Has Been Your Favorite Movie So Far?

That’s not fun, you want me to get in trouble with my producers. Well, I will say it has to be my own production called ‘Silent Pain’, just because I don’t want to get into trouble with anybody.

What Projects are You Working on now?

I just finished filming a TV series with Femi Jacobs –season 2 of ‘Middle Men’ among other stuffs.

Who is Your Celebrity Crush?

I will say I have a lot; I’m not a bad girl (laughs). In terms of ‘this person has got a nice body, this person is cute facially’, P Square, they do have a nice body. That’s because they show off every time, taking off their shirts and posting on Instagram,  I mean –a girl’s gotta look. Hello to their wives, but they do have a nice body.

Celebrity crush all round, I’m sure I’m going to get into trouble for this one, It’s Don Jazzy.

What is Your Dream Movie Role?

I want to play a comedy; I love Nkem Owoh and Osita. Those kind of comedies just gets me out of my comfort zone and that’s what I would love to do. But not action, I don’t have that energy.

Five New Things About KC.

  • I love cooking, I love beans and plantain. I think ever since I got back to Nigeria, I have just been going local.
  • I used to be a tom boy.
  • Apart from acting, I do have a job. I do have a 9-5 job which is very flexible, so I can act as well.
  • I am not married.

What is the one Thing You can’t do without?

My earrings, I feel naked if I step out of the house without my earrings. I don’t know what it is, but I don’t need make up as long as I have my earrings.
