The spaceship, Starship Avalon, on its 120-year voyage to a distant colony planet known as "Homestead II" and transporting 5,259 people has a malfunction in two of its sleep chambers. As a result, two hibernation pods open prematurely and the two people that awoke (Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt) are stranded on the spaceship, still 90 years from their destination. As they face living the rest of their lives on board, with every luxury they could ever ask for, they begin to fall in love with each other. Then they discover the ship is in grave danger, with the lives of 5000 sleeping passengers at stake.
Lawrence was paid $20 million against 30 percent of the profit after the movie breaks even, and Pratt was paid $12 million for both of their respective roles.
