For his lead role in the 2014 British biographical romantic drama film ‘The Theory of Everything’, the 33-year-old bested the likes of Steve Carell ('Foxcatcher'), Bradley Cooper (''), Benedict Cumberbatch ('') and Michael Keaton ('') for the honor.

'I am fully aware that I am a lucky, lucky man. This belongs to all of those people around the world battling ALS”, Redmayne’s speech read, honouring those who suffer from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
