Actress talks character in "Fifty," what she loves and hates about 'Maria'

Omoni Oboli is Maria in the much talked about movie "Fifty."

In an exclusive interview with Pulse Nigeria, the actress spoke about her character Maria, what she loves and hates about character, what sort of person would love her character, and more.

On her character;

Mariais a career woman, very driven, very passionate, a go-getter. At the same time, Maria is in love with a married man, and finds out for the first time at fifty that she’s pregnant. So Maria is a very conflicted person.

On what sort of person would love her character;

Everyone who has been in love, or is in love now, will love Maria. Everyone who is looking to get pregnant in old age, will definitely love Maria.

On what she loves and hates about Maria;

I’m not sure if I can really say I hate anything about Maria. I love the fact that she’s soft and strong at the same time. I think I admire that in women.

You know Nse, Dakore and Ireti, there are just girls that I actually love. I actually think that they are really good actresses, and I loved working with them. We had a lot of chemistry on and off screen.”

The actress also spoke on her favorite scenes, the core message of “Fifty,” What the audience would be thinking after watching the movie, and on Nigerians being ready for “Fifty.”

'Fifty' captures a few pivotal days in the lives of four Nigerian women - Tola, Elizabeth, Maria and Kate, who are forced at midlife to take inventory of their personal lives, while juggling careers and family against the sprawling backdrops of the upper middle-class neighbourhoods of Ikoyi and Victoria Island in Lagos.

Executive produced by MO Abudu, directed by Biyi Bandele, "Fifty" is produced by Tope Oshin Ogun, with Malcom McLean as director of photography.
