Netflix cancels show amid sexual abuse allegation against Kevin Spacey

Netflix has cancelled "House of Cards" hours after claims that Kevin Spacey made sexual advances towards a 14-year-old surfaced.

Netflix is ending its political drama "House of Cards" after its upcoming sixth season.

News of the cancellation comes hours after allegations of sexual harassment in 1986 by the show's lead actor Kevin Spacey against a then-14-year-old Anthony Rapp surfaced.

According to Rapp, a then 26-year-old Spacey had invited him to a party at his home in New York, and at the end of the night, he picked Rapp up, placed him on his bed, and climbed on top of him.

“He was trying to seduce me,” Rapp told BuzzFeed News. “I don't know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.”

Hours after the allegations from the "Star Trek: Discovery" actor broke on Monday, October 30, 2017, Spacey took to Twitter to apologize for his actions, and officially came out as gay.

Netflix, which produces "House of Cards," released a statement in response to the allegations against Spacey, saying they were “deeply troubled” by the news.

Several sources, however, claim that the decision to end the show was made prior to Rapp's claim about Spacey, but the timing of the announcement has nevertheless raised eyebrows.

"House of Cards," which made its debut in 2013, tells the story of a Congressman who works with his equally conniving wife to exact revenge on the people who betrayed him.

The show has been nominated for 33 Emmy awards and eight Golden Globe awards, with Spacey and Robin Wright winning best actor and actress Golden Globes for their roles.

The final episodes of the TV series will air in 2018.
