Disney is planning a sequel

Disney has kicked off work on the upcoming 'Maleficent' sequel.

Following the success of the original film which brought in over $758 million, Walt Disney Pictures is developing a 'Maleficent' sequel.

According to Deadline, Linda Woolverton, who scripted the first film, will work on the upcoming sequel which is expected to star Angelina Jolie in the lead role.

Released in 2014, 'Maleficent', was directed by Robert Stromberg, and tells the story of a vengeful fairy who is driven to curse an infant princess, only to discover that the child may be the one person who can restore peace to their troubled land.

Others in the original series include Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville.
