Following opposition from Islamic clerics, the Federal Government has cancelled its plans to build a film village in Kano.
Aimed at creating jobs and bringing local films to high standard, the Federal Government had planned releasing 1billion Naira for the kick off of the 20-hectare film village.
A week after the announcement was made by member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, some Islamic clerics led by Sheik Abdallah Usman Gadan Kanya, opposed the establishment.
According to the clerics, the project is a plot to undermine Muslims and their religion by creating a hub for immorality.
The cancellation follows the opposition from Muslim clerics, and social media reactions.
