Jamal confirms his exit from "Empire" [Tweets]

Jussie Smollett's character, Jamal Lyon, was shot by Freda Gathers in episode 17 of "Empire" titled "Rise by Sin."

In the episode which aired on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, Jamal took the bullet for his homophobic father, Lucious Lyon, who had earlier told him he would be happy if he died from AIDS.

Jamal stepped in to stop Freda from shooting Lucious after she found out Lucious killed her father in the prison.

The episode concluded in a cliffhanger with Jamal Lyon in surgery.
