Crazy Rich Asians earned another $22 million in its third weekend of domestic release, recording a mere 11% drop from its $24.8m second weekend, which in turn was just 6.4% down from its $26.5m opening Fri-Sun debut frame.

It also earned $28.3m over the weekend, giving it the third-biggest Labor Day weekend ever, behind The Sixth Sense(a $29m fifth weekend in 1999) and Rob Zombie's Halloween (a $30m debut in 2007).

Jon M. Chu’s directed $30m romantic comedy has earned $117m in its first 20 days of domestic release.

“Crazy Rich Asians,” adapted from a 2013 novel by Kevin Kwan, has also swept up nearly $111 million in North America, according to comScore, which compiles box-office data.

The movie plot is a slimmed-down version of the 2013 novel of the same name (which birthed a trilogy — hello, future film sequels).

As adapted by Peter Chiarelli (The Proposal) and TV writer Adele Lim, the screenplay draws on some of the most beloved tropes of the romantic comedy.

It has got hints of Cinderella, which has provided a partial template for many a romantic comedy to thrive, with a proposed sequel already on its way.

2. Crazy Rich Asians is fun, colourful, gorgeous, and swoon-worthy. It is packed with a terrific cast that includes Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh and Henry Golding, glamorous locations, witty jokes, and a story with a lot of heart.

3. Crazy Rich Asians is not your everyday romantic comedy movie. Yes, it packs the expected, in making you laugh, smile, cheer for the heroine, and root for love, but it adds many extras as it also challenges some conventional expectations about Hollywood romantic comedies, and not just in its casting.

4. In Rachel, played by Constance Wu, the movie boasts a heroine who will keep you glued to the screens as she embodies her role to perfection.

There is a balance to her life as She has her personal and professional life together just fine, has a healthy relationship with her handsome boyfriend, who loves her, loves her mother and is loved by her in return and is able to form warm relationships with other women.

5. The movie projects wealth, affluence and luxury in grand display, which is a good thing, but it is also well grounded with realistic, loveable characters, who spark off relatable and intriguing conversations on culture and relationships.
