Actress reveals why she hasn't left "Grey's Anatomy"

Why are you still hooked on to the ABC hit series "Grey's Anatomy?" Ellen Pompeo reveals why she is still on show as Meredith Grey.

In a recent interview, the 46-year-old revealed why she has never considered leaving the show.

“My decision to stay on ‘Grey’s’ was based solely on age,” Pompeo said. “At 33, I was wise enough to know my clock was already ticking in Hollywood.”

Pompeo who made her debut on show in 2005 at the age of 35, revealed that things might have been different if she had made her debut on time.

“I probably would have done my time, then gone out to search for other things.” She said. "I was definitely aware of how challenging it would be to find other roles in my late 30s and early 40s.”

After her 2-year contract expired at the end of the recently concluded 12th season, Ellen Pompeo signed a new deal to remain on show as Meredith Grey.

Her renewal comes after Sara Ramirez exit from show in season 12 finale after her character was written out as she proceeded to travel to NYC with Sophia.

Pompeo is one of the highest-paid actresses on TV, reportedly earning $300,000 per episode for her interpretation of the character Meredith.

Pompeo is one of the hit medical drama’s remaining original cast members. Ramirez exit marked the third major exit on show, following the departures of Sandra Oh in Season 10 and Patrick Dempsey in Season 11.
