AMVCA winner talks "A Day with Death," challenges bringing script to life, winning

Asurf Oluseyi won the 'best short film' award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice award for "A Day with Death."

 

Asurf Oluseyi who won the Africa Magic Viewers Choice 'best short film' award for "A Day With Death," was recently a guest at Pulse Nigeria studio.

The filmmaker beat other nominees "Panic Button – Bongiwe Selane," "Yawa – Kassim Braimah," "Blood Taxi – Folasakin Iwajomo," and "A Cup of Sugar – Bongiwe Selane" to win the coveted price.

In the exclusive chat with Pulse, Oluseyi and Judith Audu who played Death in the film, spoke on inspiration behind "A Day with Death", challenges encountered while bringing the script to life, and their upcoming projects.

"A Day with Death" tells the story of a cantankerous sixty-five-year-old woman “Margaret” (Tuby Aiyedehin) who has a few things to do before she goes.

Asurf's upcoming projects include a short film which explores the reality of sexuality amidst spirituality, exorcism, blackmail, and family life. Hell or High Water challenges stereotypical narratives about sexuality and spirituality.

Audu's upcoming projects include her first feature film undefinedwhich stars  Stan Nze, Rotimi Salami, Ijeoma Agu, Obutu Roland, Brutus Richard, Gregory Ojefua, Judith Audu, Perpetua Adefemi, with special appearances by Adeniyi Johnson, Sambasa Nzeribe, Morten Foght, Bucci Franklin, Eric Nwanso, L.A.S.E, Seun Afolabi, among others.
