Emerging as the lowest domestic opening for Marvel Studios since 'The Incredible Hulk,' 'Ant-Man' opens with $58M.

Marvel's superhero Ant-Man plays big for the silver screen

Marvel's new superhero movie 'Ant-Man' starring Paul Rudd,  took the No: 1 spot for the weekend with a $58 million opening, emerging  the 12th consecutive No. 1 opening for a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Unlike its other superheroes - Captain America, Thor and Iron Man with huge openings, 'Ant-Man' is the  lowest domestic opening for Marvel Studios since 'The Incredible Hulk.'

“No one else could take what is really an obscure character and launch it in such a big way,” said Hollis, Disney distribution chief.

“It’s a sign that they’re doing so much right and that it’s a brand that has overwhelming momentum,” he added.
