The Regional Director M-Net/Africa MagicWangi Mba-Uzoukwu said the regional categories were introduced to make the awards even more pan African.

“This year we’ve tried to make it more pan African, make it more representative and kind of define the categories in a way that reflects the things we do”, Mba-Uzoukwu said while addressing press after the announcement last Friday.

“You’ll find that every year we might add a new category depending on what we feel has now become something that is worth including.

“The reason for the regional awards is really just to ensure that we get regional engagement and we get a nice spread across the continent".

The movies that made the nomination list were films that were showcased from September of 2014 to October of 2015. A team of judges from vetted the selections across the continent. There were 12 judges led by head judge Njoki C. Muhoho, who is a Kenyan scriptwriter and producer. Mba-Uzoukwu revealed that 2,400 submissions were made this year.

With regards to voting, the Africa Magic director said, “the talent nominated do need to garner up support”. She shared that there would be promo videos aired in all African countries via Africa Magic.

“Each voting entity can vote for up to a hundred times and then it’s capped. So everyone has an equal playing field. So it’s one unique number or ID, you can vote up to a hundred times and that’s the limit”, she explained.

Fans can vote for their favourite actors, series and movies on the Africa Magic website and on We Chat.
