Film director and producer Tope Oshin has honoured the late Amaka Igwe in her new documentary called “Amaka’s Kin: The Women of Nollywood”.

The production features filmmakers like Stephanie Linus, Omoni Oboli and Mildred Okwo speaking about their career in film.
Oshin debuted her film at a private screening at Afrinolly in Lagos on September 19, 2016.
The documentary featured female filmmakers speaking about their journey, their careers, the influence Amaka Igwe had on them and their challenges of working in a male dominated industry.
"Amaka's Kin" features producers and directors like Michelle Bello, Stephanie Linus, Mildred Okwo, Adeola Osunkojo, Omoni Oboli, and Belinda Yanga Agedah.
At the screening, Oshin shared the inspiration behind her production.
“The idea was to honour Amaka Igwe who is special to me in many more ways than one and I’ve come to realise she was special to a whole lot of other people as well, she said.
“The primary reason here is to honour her, to immortalize her, it’s to highlight her impact on the lives of women, on the lives of Nigerians, on Nollywood".
Filmmaker and TV mogul Amaka Igwe wrote and produced "Checkmate," and its spin-off" Fuji House of Commotion." She also produced the critically acclaimed films "Violated" and "Rattle Snake." On April 28, 2014, renowned and talented filmmaker Amaka Igwe passed away at the age of 51, creating a massive vacuum in the film industry, Nollywood.
Igwe’s husband Charles Igwe who was present at the screening thanked Oshin for putting together an inspirational documentary.
“Watching that, it has become evident that the primary legacy she had was to give of herself to people like you, you are the evident that she did that and she did that well”, he said.
The event was attended by professionals from the Nigerian motion picture industry including Funlola Aofiyebi, Uduak Isong Oguamanam, James Omokwe, Uche Odoh, “ Hush” actress Ade Laoye, Adeola Osunkojo, DJ Tee, Belinda and Chris Ihidero.
"Amaka's Kin" is set for it's World Premiere at the BFI, Southbank, London on November 19, 2016.
