5 things that would happen if Nollywood gets its Razzie Award

What would happen if Nollywood had an award ceremony that 'honours' the worst films and actors every year?

Keeping My Man

Razzie Award is a platform that honours the worst movies and performances of the year. The winners are determined by more than 600 voters in the U.S. and voters from other foreign countries.

Razzie Awards usually hold a day to the Oscars. Over the years, box office successful movies and award winning actors like Ben Affleck, "Fifty Shades of Grey," Michael Bay, Tyler Perry, Sandra Bullock have emerged winners.

In 2016, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan won the worst actor of the year for his role in "Dilwale."

There are five things that must happen if Nigeria got an award ceremony that honours the worst in film.

1. 70% of Nollywood movies and actors would make the nominee list

Every year comes with disastrous big screen bomb. Bad movies are nothing new in Nollywood, and considering that at least 70% of Nollywood movies are badly made, coming up with the Nollywood Razzie will not be a difficult task.

Once in a while, a great actor or veteran delivers a horrible role interpretation. Also, 70% of the time, horrible actors are featured in movies that make it to the cinema.

2. Most filmmakers and actors will go in search of their 'haters'

In Nollywood, a negative article directed at a filmmaker simply means the writer is a 'hater.' Imagine an award system that honours horrible movies, most filmmakers will take to social media to write epistles about their hard work and their haters.

3. There would be a physical battle

Some filmmakers and actors will take the battle off social media to the physical.  In Nollywood, most filmmakers struggle to handle criticism appropriately. And for something as 'simple' as the Razzie, some will directly or indirectly go in search of the organizers.

4. Some filmmakers and actors will get better

If Nollywood had a Razzie award, some filmmakers will pick the important lessons and corrections that are being offered by their critics and get better.

Some actors would bear in mind that just because someone feels a certain way about their talent in a particular production, doesn't mean they are not creative or generally good at what you do.

5. Most filmmakers will come up with ridiculous responses

Who isn't familiar with some ridiculous responses Nollywood actors, producers and directors come up with?

A Razzie award will simply birth more hilariously absurd responses such as 'go and shoot yours first,' 'I am making my money,' 'my movie has won several awards,' 'I am acting for my 10 million social media followers' among other responses.
