Nigeria will never have a Kardashian family

Who are the Kardashians? An American-Albanian family who has been famous since the arrival of one sex tape in 2007. So why is the world struggling to be them except Nigerian families?

The Kardashian-Jenner clan make Cosmopolitan magazine's November 2015 isuue

Who are the Kardashians? An American-Albanian family who has been famous since the arrival of one sex tape in 2007. A recording, which has become a backbone to them gaining money, fame and bravery. Well, it's indeed brave to see a woman, whose nakedness has been spread across the world become somebody and a strong force to reckon with in the fashion and television worlds but why isn't that also a platform for the same accolades in Nigeria?

Kardashian clan in Naija!? No way! Never! Says who? It took Kim Kardashian a sex tape but can it take a Nigerian girl or boy the same or even worse to become famous? Right now, we have people are known across the nation for doing absolutely nothing in life order than just attend events and taking selfies with celebrities, they don't even work for or with. Why are they not considered to have the Kardashian-rise-to-fame genes?

Imagine for a second, that a 16-25 year old Naija babe or guy records him/herself having sex and then claims it leaks on online. What happens to him/her and his/her family after that? If they are not thrown in jail for misconduct, they will be ridiculed for the rest of their 'miserable' lives. His/her parents could die from a heart attack or shame if they don't get disowned. Let's say, it's really hard.

Naija families grow up with one motto – "Don't ever bring shame and disgrace to this family" - a father would remind himself, his children and wife every second. With that in mind, sex on camera is a no-no. Besides, how many Naija fathers or mothers have a set of pretty kids who are so determined to become famous for doing nothing? Almost none. Every child wants to be something - a lawyer, doctor, engineer, lecturer, journalist, businessman, PRO, etc not a cover girl, Koko Mansion star or event attendee. What kind of life is that?

Only in America would we witness a young female struggle to rise to fame for dropping out of college, become the best video vixen, get the highest client as a hooker orbe the stripper who got rich by having babies for an NBA or Hollywood star and taking half his money after a divorce. Nigerian law won't even permit these things neither would the society praise a whore or stripper or a good-for-nothing child. So, where would a Kardashian family really come from?

Kris Jenneris considered the master-mind behind her family's fame and riches. Its alleged she turned the sex tape into a money-making franchise. And yes, it worked. But since then, its been the only thing her children are known for. Famous for being famous and nothing else! No Nigerian mother would do what Kris is doing, right? Even if there was a sex tape, our Naija mamas will use all the money they have to bury it. In fact, you will be sent abroad [for those with money] or sent to your wicked uncle's house to receive discipline. By the time you're done with, even you won't remember that sex tape.

Our families believe in big careers, earning wages for a great service to a nation or humanity as well as being very proud of what you do. With these, a father can proudly say, “that's my son/daughter” in front of his friends. Truth be told, every child craves for that compliment at some point. Something, a Kardashian parent could hardly say.

When people wonder what type of mother and father would allow their children get so many plastic surgeries just to look pretty in the eyes of the world – like the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan, I would reply. “the type whose mother has more surgeries than Joan Rivers and whose father died on a plastic surgeon's bed and resurrected as a woman on the same bed.” Who then corrects a child? A school teacher, the Sunday school teacher or the community?

So, at the end of the day, Nigeria may never be able to produce a Kardashian family not because there's a fear for success and fame but simply because we are not cut out for that kind of lifestyle and belief that doing nothing in life can earn you the big life you fantasize about. Go out and work hard and leave the rest to God... you will be rewarded. At least with a dignified three-square meals a day!
