Are we about to witness a full blown rivalry?

Pop singers Seyi Shay and Tiwa Savage have revealed that they are no friends. It seems that they are heading towards a rivalry.

Are Tiwa Savage, and Seyi Shay on a war path?

When asked about Seyi Shay being a Pepsi ambassador with her Tiwa Savage said "You are so…ugh…having an interview with this girl is crazy. See I knew you were going to drop this in anyway, everybody has heard! What? Am I happy for Davido? Of course. I love him. He’s absolutely fantastic."

Seyi Shay caught the shade and reacted to it. She shared a screenshot of Tiwa Savage's statement on her Instagram and captioned it "Yikes." She also added a heartbroken emoticon to the caption. Responding to a fan in her comment section Seyi Shay admitted that Tiwa Savage's response hurt her.

Tiwa Savage's comment during the radio interview was most likely a response to what Seyi Shay said about her during a interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu. When asked about her relationship with Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay said "I don’t really know her”. Of course this made the news.

So we now have two cases of these pop singers taking shots at each other. There had been no case of bad blood between Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay until recently. So what is the cause of this cold war between the two ladies?

Maybe it all started in November 2015, when Seyi Shay was revealed as an ambassador for Pepsi. This bit of news was surprising because Tiwa Savage was still a Pepsi ambassador. There were rumours that Tiwa Savage had been dropped for Seyi Shay. Of course that rumour didn't turn out to be true. Yet people wondered why a brand will sign two female singers within the same genre? A few months later Davido would come on board the Pepsi brand which had struck an endorsement deal with Wizkid a year earlier. Maybe this is how Pepsi prefers to do business- signing up music rivals.

Another reason why Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay are not the best of pals is because of competition. In the Nigerian music industry there is only one top spot for female artistes and Tiwa Savage is at that spot right now. The Mavin singer has been the queen of the music industry for at least three years. Maybe, Seyi Shay wants a shot at the crown and Tiwa Savage is not giving her the chance to take her spot.

Whatever the reason(s) is/are, the cold war between Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay might go on for a while. Although it seems Tiwa Savage is preoccupied with personal and family matters. The interview was conducted before the crash of her marriage last week. Anyway Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay have made it known they are not sisters or friends. Let's see how this plays out.
