Rihanna Nude trickster or heroine for sexuality?

Rihanna sells sex, dark sex and lust but the purpose and effect of her marketing strategy are beyond skin deep.

She has gone topless more times than we can count. She has been kicked off Instagram for baring her nipples. She is the queen of risqué, the dominatrix of sensuality.

Yesterday (Wednesday, April 21, 2016) global pop star Rihanna released a new video from her latest album ‘ANTI’. Titled ‘Needed Me’ Riri (as she is fondly called by fans) bared her nipples in another dark emotionally driven clip.

Wearing a very see-through nightgown and holding a gun with a silencer attached to it Rihanna mocked her former lover who leaned on her emotionally. Strutting into the strip club she popped three shots into his body before zooming off with her goons in a motor bike convoy.

This is why we love Rihanna. The female pop star knows how to make raunchy look classy and tasty. She is the only female singer who is household popular that is not scared of pushing the boundaries of sexuality and black sex appeal. Rihanna is a sex pot and is not ashamed of it.

Rihanna started off as the little teenage from Barbados with the cute debut single ‘If It’s Lovin’ That You Want’. Watching the video again it is almost laughable to picture Rihanna singing like this in 2016- begging for her lover’s approval. Nah not today’s Riri.

As they say Rihanna is a bad bitch. All female celebrities in this day and age sell sex (well except for Adele) but what makes Rihanna stand out from the litter is that she peddles some kind of erotica that ought not to be commoditized. A forbidden love, a dark desire, this is Rihanna’s stock in trade. Her song ‘Te Amo’ is about lesbian love.

Rihanna was moderately edgy before 2009. However after the infamous incident with Chris Brown her songs had a darker mood and tone- so also Chris Brown's.

In the age of ‘hard to love’ women Rihanna is the patron saint. For women who believe they are ‘damaged goods’ Rihanna is their goddess and her songs are their worship songs.

On a track called ‘Famous’ off Kanye West’s  LP ‘The Life of Pablo’ Rihanna sings “Man I can understand how it might be/Kinda hard to love a girl like me/I don't blame you much for wanting to be free/I just wanted you to know.” With a personal story of tragic love Rihanna’s songs about the dark side of love make her worshipped and adored.

Rihanna is the sexy rebel and risqué queen. She isn’t scared of showing off her sexuality and singing about the forbidden. Her courage let’s women with emotional difficulties stand tall.

It will be cliché to say that Rihanna is a role model. I prefer to think of her as the godmother of women who are trying to find themselves, the nude angel for the lost.
