What makes the veteran actor still tick?
Years after, Richard Mofe Damijo is still a force to reckon with celebrity-wise because of how he handles fame.
Hardly any week goes by without the silver-beard actor trending or having many stories about him on entertainment sites and blogs. In this social media era Richard Mofe Damijo has become a star attraction.
While RMD is the man of the hour now, it must be said that he was out of the picture for some years because of his active participation in politics. He was the former Commissioner of Culture and Tourism in Delta State and played an active part in drawing attention to the state in terms of entertainment and tourism.
After the general elections, Richard Mofe Damijo took a break from politics. So far his return to entertainment has been whirlwind with many hot actresses revealing that they have a crush on him. RMD has always been a ladies man and in his latter years it seems that this hasn't waned.
Actresses such as Ini Edo and Yvonne Jegede have publicly said that they are crushing on the quinquagenarian. "So my day one crush popped in @mofedamijo .#iamstillcrushing#. Bless u Papi #legend#Africa's best#hawtie #stillcrushing" wrote Ini Edo on Instagram when she shared a photo of her with RMD in September 2015.
Richard Mofe Damijo has also come at the right time when the 'Beard Gang' phenomenon was peaking. With his grey beards the veteran actor has been in the spotlight for the trend. Also his extremely good fashion sense has endeared him to the online fashion community.
When it comes to the nitty gritty though what has made Richard Mofe Damijo still relevant two decades after we saw him play the role of Segun Kadiri in the long rested soap opera ''?
RMD seems to have given us an answer to that. In April, 2016 Richard Mofe Damijo revealed that his staying poweris because of how he has been able to handle fame with discipline.
"The discipline to graciously handle fame is more important than the struggle to gain fame. It is a persons ability to handle the trappings (of fame) that determines his/her staying power" he wrote on his Instagram account.
Richard Mofe Damijo rose to fame during the golden era of Nollywood when actors and actresses were revered as demi-gods. Also this was an era when they were a lot of scandals from the movie industry. One thing about RMD was that despite the sleazy headlines he was never marred by a scandal. It is because of this that I think he has been around for a while.
Also RMD has not stopped being intriguing and mysterious. From Nollywood's smooth guy to elder statesman Richard Mofe Damijo is still ticking because he knows how to handle fame well.
