How Wizkid can expand his brand beyond music

With the world on his palm, it is time for Wizkid to branch out and diversify his brand from music.

Wizkid

Wizkid is living a charmed life right now and has transcended being more than a star. The star boy is now a mega star. Wizkid is the hottest African act in the international market right now and he is in hot demand. Clearly the pop mega star is not your average male celebrity.

Looking critically at Wizkid’s career you will notice that it is too linear- strictly music. The time has come for him to expand his business beyond music. It’s time for him to exploit his super celebrity status and generate income from non-music business ventures.

Here are some ways Wizkid can expand his brand just beyond music.

1) Merchandising

This is a major source of revenue worldwide however a lot of Nigerians have not been able to exploit due to logistic reasons. Since Wizkid has a strong fan base abroad he can go into merchandising by creating a fashion line that features his T-shirts, caps, hats, chains, tank tops and other apparel. The next step is to create a website where people can buy these items. Wizkid has already started toying with the idea of creating his own fashion line. In 2014 he partnered with DJ Nu Kidd to create a dedicated snapback line. Speaking to , Wizkid revealed he would be launching his own line pretty soon.

2) TV/films

This is another virgin territory that Wizkid can exploit. The pop star could make cool money by appearing on some TV series and in movies also. What he can do is take acting lessons and appear in some popular Nigerian TV series for a few episodes and get paid for it. This also applies to movies. Millions of Nigerians would pay to watch Wizkid in a movie even if he only says ‘yaga’. Also Wizkid can have a movie of his line done. Titled from ‘’ the movie will be a biopic of Wizkid’s rise to stardom.

3) Branding

With Wizkid’s strong brand presence he can put his name on anything and it will sell, water, juice, phones, notebooks etc. South African Rapper Cassper Nyovest has his own phone, I see no reason why Wizkid can’t team up with an Android phone here in Nigeria to be selling Star Boy phones? With his name attached to several products the possibilities are limitless for him.

4) Ojuelegba School of Music & Arts

As a way of giving back to the society Wizkid should help establish an arts school located in his former stomping grounds Ojuelegba. On his part this way will be his own act of social responsibility and help make his former hood a centre where young artistes can come and develop their craft and skill.
